Sixth Sunday of Easter. Jesus tells his followers that he has chosen them, that they did not choose him. That sounds strange in a culture that put an accent on individual choice. Jesus chose to gift the church with the power to love and to become fruitful. It is not the individual who is chosen. It is the whole body of God’s people who are chosen, like a bag of fruit.
